While most births are met with celebration and joy, for young women who have made the difficult decision to place their child in adoption it is a time marked by sadness and loss. Their grief can be exacerbated if their struggle is private, and their unresolved loss can result in substantial long-term emotional and behavioral problems. I am committed to helping these women deal with the range of emotions they experience during this heart-wrenching time so that they can move ahead with their lives in the most productive way.

I also work closely with many couples struggling with infertility. I am experienced in evaluating egg donor and gestational surrogate candidates to determine their suitability. My goal is to make the birth and subsequent adoption a positive experience for the birth mother, the child, and the adoptive family. Providing a positive sense of closure, even in binding adoptions, is vitally important to the lives of everyone involved.

With your comfort level as my guide, I will help you explore your life. I use a variety of cognitive-behavioral techniques that are based on the theory that your feelings and your behaviors are driven by your underlying thoughts and beliefs- not by external factors like people, situations and events. The benefit of this approach is that you can learn to feel better even if those external factors do not change.

My goal is to engage you in self reflection so that you can recognize unproductive thought patterns and the beliefs that underlie them. I will help you to learn to reframe them and substitute positive, rational alternatives that can alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Whenever indicated I work closely with prescribing physicians and school personnel. Please not that I participate with a few insurance plans and will gladly fill out the related forms. However, be aware that while I am a participating provider with a few insurance companies, psychotherapy is the only service covered by insurance.
